I Need a Job Fast! What to Do When the Going Gets Tough

Have you ever had that sinking feeling overcome you when you find yourself jobless or when a project didn’t quite work out like you expected it to. Suddenly, you find yourself thinking, “I need a job fast” because you have bills to pay and people to support. For any unemployed person, this can be a horrifying moment. When you’re struggling to find employment while in the midst of an economic crisis, surely it is even more frightening.

With millions of people hunting left and right for a good job, is it possible to beat the odds and find lucrative employment quickly? When you’re drowning in a sea of applicants all struggling for the same thing, how do you make yourself noticeable? As scary and impossible as the task may seem, it is something that can be achieved. You just have to be prepared and learn to muster the confidence needed to survive the perils of the job market.

If you find yourself in this predicament, there are several things you must do to turn “I need a job fast” to “I got a job fast”. Keep in mind the following suggestions to make the transition from jobless to employed a bit faster and easier.

First, you need to use your resources.
Have you ever heard of the old adage, “success comes not from what you know, but who you know”? It’s not 100% accurate but there is a grain of truth in the saying.

When you find yourself in the “I need a job fast” situation, knowing people who can help you out can help cut job seeking time. Networking can be your most valuable asset and asking help from people that you know may ultimately propel you into a position faster and more efficiently. The truth is, statistically, there are more companies that will hire prospective employees from recommendations made by their current employees. If you know someone who can help you in this way, then you basically have a foot in the door. This also means that you are ten steps ahead of the other candidates.

Second, do your research and apply only for positions that fit you.
Saying “I need a job fast” does not mean “I need ANY job fast”. When you apply for a position, you want to make sure that you are well-suited for it. Know your strengths and your weaknesses. Focus on your field of expertise.

There is nothing more embarrassing than showing up for an interview for a position that you are not qualified to fill. There are some positions you can get hired for with just minimal training, but there are others that have specific requirements. You might want to make sure that you have the required skill set necessary to complete the duties relevant to the job. For example, you don’t want to apply for an IT computer technician position the main responsibility of which is networking when your experience is strictly limited to working with hardware that is all currently outdated.

Finally, a good attitude can go a long way!

You must have confidence and conviction. Nurture a positive outlook on job seeking possibilities. When you’re in the “I need a job fast” zone, then you need to act fast and do more. Be a bit more assertive and don’t be afraid of being a bit bold. Call places up or stop by in person, even if they are no “help wanted” signs outside. Inquire and ask around. Don’t be afraid of being turned down because every negative response you get means another opportunity to turn things around.

Even though it may seem impossible in this economy, there are plenty of options and jobs available, as long as you know where and how to look. Don’t be content with whining and sitting around saying, “I need a job fast” over and over again. You must be willing to do what it takes. Hard work, persistence and a healthy does of optimism are the things you’ll need to succeed!
